HISTORY: THE DEVELOPMENT OF LASERS
These past 10 years, technological progress has been such that lasers have become the solution for patients wishing to get rid of hairs, spots, rosacea, acne, and wrinkles.

YEAR 2000
Introduction of flash lamps or pulsed light or IPL, introduction of the LED which alone can treat black skins.
YEAR 2001
A fractionated photothermolysis patent is filed by the PALOMAR company.
YEAR 2006
The marketing license for fractionated laser is granted to the RELIANT company, which becomes the sole owner of the name FRAXEL. In the following years PALOMAR works at improving the security and comfort of its machines, particularly by introducing a handpiece cooling system, enabling painless application.



OUR SYSTEM : STARLUX PALOMAR
The latest, most powerful pulsed light system, featuring several handpieces which enable rejuvenation by light. Fractional smoothing by gradual replacement of the aged, wrinkled, spotted skin on the face, neck, and creased neckline, with a new skin. It also enables treatment of pigment spots on the face, and even melasma, on the back of the hand, acne scars, stretch marks, permanent hair removal, hypertrophic or achromic scars.

PULSED LIGHT (IPL)
Though not technically a laser, it has the same physics principles, A broad spectrum of light is directed into the skin (using two handpieces: yellow or green). Simultaneously it can treat redness following a deep peel or ablative laser procedure, sun, age spots, wrinkles, fine lines, dark circles under the eyes, sun damage, solar elastosis, large pores, acne, hypertrophic scars, with minor side effects.

Yellow Light
Yellow light is absorbed by the black in the melanin of the hair and thus enables permanent hair removal, in 4 to 5 sessions spread out at intervals depending on the hair growth cycle, i.e. repeated every 2 or 3 months, for an average period of one and half years. The skin must then be protected from the sun for two weeks. The contra-indication is absolute on skins that are naturally or artificially tanned (self-tanning lotion, self-tanning capsules, photosensitizing medications). Yellow light will also treat Pigment spots: the spot blackens within 24hrs and disappears within 8 days.

Green Light
Green light is absorbed by its complementary color, red: hemoglobin. This handpiece therefore enables treatment of Dilated vessels, Rosacea, Ruby spots, Acne rosacea, which get worse with age, and Arterial spiders. Unlike other vascular lasers, this laser is painless, causes no redness or œdema, does not generate any problems of depigmentation or hypertrophic scars, enables to treat the neck, neckline, hands, and for men there is no risk of removal or burning of the beard.

Light is radiated with a third handpiece which allows radiation at two depths (200 and 500 microns),offers the result of an ablative laser with none of the downtime

Stimulating collagen production
The excellence of fractionated smoothing rejuvenates damaged skins, always with the purpose to generate the thermal stimulation required for neocollagenesis. Fractionated photothermolysis is a fantastic discovery, leaving the upper layers of the skin intact The skin is perforated by thousand microwells which penetrate the dermis, down to a depth of 200 to 500 microns. These wells are adequately spaced apart 200 to 300 microns, thus leaving sound skin to induce restoration of the epidermis and the dermis (microscopic necrotic debris produce a tanned look on the 3rd day). Photothermolysis destroys aged skin up to 30% at each session and induces collagen production, restoring a youthful skin. It takes approximately 90 days to rebuild the collagen, the results are therefore gradual but spectacular and require at least 3 sessions spaced apart by 3 to 4 weeks.
Benefits : sessions cause little or no pain. There is no longer risk of infection since the corneal layer is intact, hypertrophic scars or depigmentation. The side effects are minor,redness resembling sunburn, possibly some swelling, redness can be hidden with makeup, this can be done during lunch break). Suitable for all skin types.
Therapy: each session lasts about 45 minutes for the face, neck and neckline, and 15 minutes for the periorbital or perioral area. This treatment is often associated with IPL and with a 45-second Gentlewaves session (led), for its anti-inflammatory effect.
Aftercare : the skin is cooled, soothing cream is applied to relieve the redness (Cicalfat cream) for the next 15 minutes, then at home, morning and evening for 2 days, then a sterile, hydrating cream Ialusset (hyaluronic acid ) is applied morning and evening for two weeks.
Precautions before each session: stay away from the sun 2 weeks before, prevent any herpes appearing if you are prone to it by taking an appropriate treatment (acyclovir). Be careful with photosensitizing products. Stop Retinol Cream and vitamin C one week before. Roacutane is a contra-indication

LED AND GENTLEWAVES,
NEW IN 2010
Light-emitting diode lamps are low-energy light sources that act upon the skin without any thermal effects, that have cosmetic properties of remodeling and anti-inflammatory action. Leds that illuminate without heating are commonly used in a wide variety of daily applications: computer screens, vehicle lights, remote controls... Historically, the first application in medicine was done by NASA in order to improve skin healing under zero-gravity conditions. A new device appeared in 2004 : Gentlewaves which, during short sessions of 45 seconds, twice a week for 8 weeks, boosts up the production of collagen in the papillary dermis, tightens up the pores, smoothes the skin, and gives it radiance. Used in combination with IPL and fractionated laser, it reduces the inflammatory reaction, has a healing effect, treats inflammatory pathologies, particularly acne at the rate of 3 sessions per week for 1 month. New applications are possible: it could prevent lesions caused by burns after radiotherapy, macular degeneration, and might facilitate hair regrowth. Studies are still underway...
